Editors Note: This morning, District 26 Representative Jeremy Olson spoke with Farmer Editor, Patrice Bumstead regarding his abrupt resignation from his position as the Caucus Majority Leader. There are many speculations surrounding the timing of this, as social media sites have taken to making accusations that Olson is connected with sexual misconduct, the Sen. Ray Holmberg case and more. The Farmer felt the importance of getting to the facts behind the resignation.

Olson clarified that he did not resign from his position as a District Representative, he simply stepped down as the Caucus Leader.  During the session, he is still able to fulfill his duties as the leader and work outside of the Legislature. However, once Interim begins he will not be able to maintain outside employment and perform the duties required of the Caucus Leader.

” The reason I resigned is because I am starting a new job when the Legislative Session ends. Currently, my position as Caucus Leader is full-time. Once the Interim begins there will be a lot of work for the Caucus Leader such as fundraising events, election committees and several more tasks that require the representatives full attention, with my new employment position, I will not have time to do both effectively.” Olson explained.

When asked why the resignation took place seemingly in an abrupt manner, Olson explained that elections must take place before the Session ends. Therefore he approached Leader Lefor about his new employment opportunity and both concluded it would be best to resign now, so that there will be time to elect a new Caucus Leader.  He also pointed out that stepping down from his leadership role within the House of Representatives, does not affect his role as a state representative.

“What about the sexual misconduct accusations and connection with the Holmberg case?” asked Bumstead.

“There has not been any complaints brought forth against me. These rumors are harmful to not only myself, but also my family,” exclaimed Olson.  “Anyone can do their due diligence and ask Director of the Legislative Council, John Bjornson or Majority Leader Mike Lefor, who would confirm that there has not ever been any accusation, or complaint, formal or otherwise –  of sexual misconduct, abuse, or anything else for that matter, involving me.”
